Hello, and WELCOME to Acropolis version 1.0, for the IIe/GS. This is a software that was never 100% polished off (just because we kept having new ideas that were never fully implemented) but it works very well. You must have a harddrive and ModemWorks/MWlite 3.0 by Morgan Davis Group to use this software. (see accompanying file) It is a citadel-style software, with files, messages and Wormholes (doors) available in rooms. There is documentation which will be available shortly, but for now, there are some things you have to load into a text editor and update yourself. This is not the documentation, but I have to recieve the docs (which goes in-depth on all the Acropolis files & functions) and I will put them online as soon as I do. Files included are: BASIC.SYSTEM - this is what you will run STARTUP - startup program, MUST BE RUN FIRST ACROPOLIS - BASIC prorgram- the core acropolis program PREFIXES - this file contains the system prefixes EXIT - used to get back into the BBS while in Sysop Basic mode PROG/ - this folder contains the acropolis programs DATA/ - this folder contains the acropolis data files TEXT/ - this folder contains system text files XFERS/ - this folder will contain the file directories BOARDS/ - this folder contains the message board files. WORMHOLES/- this folder contains the external programs, including the vote USERS/ - this folder contains the userfiles DRIVERS/ - the folder where your Modemworks drivers are WORKSPACE/- used in networking, for temp. storage NETWORK/ - used for network file storage * FIRST THING TO DO * Get into Applesoft and edit the file STARTUP. You will see a prefix in line five- change that to the prefix of the directory with all your acropolis files. Next, use a text editor to edit the PREFIXES file. there are various pathnames, corresponding to the folders in your directory. change these accordingly. the last pathname is the ramdisk. If you have a ramdisk (for the GS) and want acropolis to preload all of its files to it, then this is the pathname of the ramdisk (usu. Ram5). For the IIe, this means nothing. Now comes a slightly more complicated part. In a text edior, load SYSDATA (not SYSINFO) from the DATA folder. It contains your sistem information. Here are the lines that I know offhand: If it has a * by it, then you can edit it. do NOT touch the other ones. *1- your BBS's name *2- the Sysop's Username *3- your modemworks serial driver (in the DRIVERS/ folder) *4- your modemworks modem driver (in the DRIVERS/ folder) 5- last system reset (I think) 6-9 not used *10- bbs network name. one word, all lowercase, only letters. 11- I don't know 12- I don't know *13- set this to 1 if you have a GS, or a 0 for a IIe 14- I don't know 15- I don't know *16- hours (+/-) from greenwhich mean time (Eastern is -4, Central is -5, etc) 17- I don't know (system reset time maybe?) *18- number of calls. set this to 0 19- days online (?) *20- new user autodelete default 21- I don't know 22- I don't know 23- I don't know 24- Level of User after they are validated. 25- I don't know *26- time to turn chat pages ON for weekdays (in minutes past midnight) *27- time to turn chat pages OFF for weekdays *28- " " " " " ON for weekends *29- " " " " " OFF for weekends all the lines below this one, leave alone. After the sysdata and prefixes are set, then you are ready to run the program. Run it and run the System editor. Go to users and selct the user SYSOP (the only user). Here you will be able to edit your information. go through al f he options and edit everything. When you're done, save that and look at the rest of the editor modules. - Access Bits are bits that can be set for access to certain rooms. - In Access Levels, 1 is unused, 2 is suspended access, 3-7 are whatever, 8 is usually co sysop and 9 is sysop. - Message receivers are the users who will receive system messages for various things that occur. (such as errors, uploads, etc). - Externals are the locations of external programs from acropolis- change the prefix to what you need them to be. after this, you are nearly set! now, for the external programs, you need to edit the info files. WORMHOLES/FABACS/WH.INFO WORMHOLES/VOTE/WH.INFO there is a pathname in both of these- change the prefix accordingly. also, the program EXIT in the main dir needs to be modified. there is a pathname in one line- the prefix should be modified accordingly. With your text editor, edit the following files, however you like: INTRO - this is the logon screen for your BBS. INTRO.PSE (optional)- Proterm Special Emulation version of your logon screen INTRO.ANSI (optional)- ANSI version of the logon screen LOGOFF, LOGOFF.PSE, LOGOFF.ANSI - the logoff screens for your BBS LOGONHELP - this is what will be shown when a new user joins the board. After all that is finished, everything is installed. - the joystick position controls the chat call on the main screen. - Apple-Return will answer the phone. Now select Sysop Login. It will take the phone off the hook automatically, but if you hold down option(solid apple) it will leave it on the hook. It will automatically load the software. type Help. Here you can learn about how to use the board. type elp ysop to see the options available t the Sysop. * NOTE * If your prefix is not /Acropolis/ then you must do the following: in Lobby> type ysop dit oom (S, E, R)- and leave everything the sae except when it asks for the pathname. type in a new pathname with YOUR preix added. Do the same thing in the room FABacs! (type ump (or partial name) * note * Acropolis can be configured to distinguish custom ringing on phone lines- which means you can run a BBS and not have to have a separate line. After this, you are on your own. Thank you for using Acropolis- I hope you have good luck.
