Professional OLEcom (tm) Product Information The Professional OLEcom Communications System - Version 3.0a OLEcom is a host telecommunications system. Its fast, flexible and easy-to-use. OLEcom allows custom configuration and the advantages of speed and efficiency without the drawback of being locked into a canned structure. Even if you don't know the first thing about programming, it will allow you to implement your telecommunications ideas exactly the way you envision them -- through the use of menu-driven, window oriented editors. OLEcom menus and prompts are displayed at rapid speed with a live-keyboard. The keyboard is scanned during display output and if you press a valid command key its executed immediately. No waiting and no awkward prompts. Just press one key for the desired menu command and its accomplished! OLEcom is cybernetic through its built-in Task Processor! Once the System Operator (SYSOP) has defined a task schedule, OLEcom will perform each task automatically according to its specified weekday and time of day. This means that you can tell OLEcom "how" and "when" to clean-up the system, make backups, transfer messages or any other batch process that comes to mind. The Editors The SYSOP's side is loaded with powerful integrated features that make OLEcom a pleasure to operate. These menu-driven, window oriented editors (accessible even while a user is on-line) allow complete control: o CED - Configuration Editor o MED - Menu Editor o UED - User Log Editor o MSGED - Message Base Editor Configuration Editor Using CED the SYSOP is able to configure up to 128 message bases, 32 user terminal types, new user default privilege level, authorization flags and time limits as well as all system-wide features. Each message base definition is made up of the message base name, access method (combined or separate), required read/write privilege levels, required authorization flags, and the type of message base, EMAIL (private mail only), standard with public messages only or standard with public and private messages allowed. Each user terminal definition is made up of terminal name, screen width, number of lines per page, clear screen codes, line-feed after carriage return setting, upper and lower case setting, bell mode, ANSI Color and IBM Graphics options. Menu Editor Using MED the SYSOP can create and edit menu control files. You specify the menu text, structure and how each menu is linked to the other menus within the system (up to 48 levels deep). Each menu is made up of commands available to the user. Each menu command is assigned privilege and authorization levels required by the user to see and use the command, the menu key used to access it and the function to be performed. There is no limit to the number of menus you may have on your system; you can have as many as available on-line disk space will allow. These are the types of menu-control functions provided: o Menu Branching and Control o Message Base Read, Write, Search and Scan o User Terminal Configuration (Nulls, Line Feeds, ANSI etc.) o Elapsed Logon Time Display o Terminating a Session (Logging Off) o Displaying the User Log (Recent Callers) o Reentering the Logon Process o Sysop Paging for Chat with Remote User o Changing the User's Personal Information o Exiting to the DOS Command Shell o Executing a DOS Command or External Program o File Selection and Display (Bulletins) o File Transfers (Upload/Download) User Log Editor Using UED the SYSOP is able to review, update, and modify the User Log. You can change any of the items in a user's record such as privilege and authorization levels, time limits and the maximum number of times they are permitted to call in one day. UED also has a powerful search function that allows you to perform a selective search of the User Log. The purge/backup function purges all deleted users and creates a backup copy of the User Log. Message Base Editor Using MSGED the SYSOP is able to review, edit and delete messages, move messages from one message base to another, import message text from a text file and export message text from the message base to an external text file. MSGED has a purge/backup function which purges all deleted messages from the system and then performs a backup of the message base. MSGED even has a built-in message text editor! Editing the text in a message is a snap. Survey Command Language The Survey Command Language (SCL) allows you to easily set up user surveys, opinion polls, product ordering or any other data collection task you can think of. Using SCL the SYSOP can create command (.CMD) files with either secret ballot voting or fill-in-the-blank questions. Once such a file has been created, in order to make it available to your users, you simply add a corresponding menu option to one of the system's menu control files (using MED). The command file can then be invoked by a user with a single menu command key. System Features OLEcom has many powerful built in features. These are just a few: o Fast reaction time with live-keyboard handling o Optional format of text output to the user's screen width o Automatic word-wrap-around during message entry o Notification of pending mail at logon with the option to read o Reply chaining in message bases o User selected terminal attributes o Unlimited User Log size (limited only by disk space) o Unlimited Message Base size (limited only by disk space) o Automatic baud rate detection o Automatic house keeping via task schedules o Pop-up SYSOP SERVICES menu for access to all resources Requirements Professional OLEcom requires the following minimum hardware/software configuration: o IBM PC/XT/AT or 100% compatible o 256K Random Access Memory (512K recommended) o MS-DOS 3.1 or higher o One floppy disk drive and a hard disk o Serial interface (RS-232) o Hayes or 100% compatible auto-answer modem (300-2400 baud) Professional OLEcom Shareware The Professional OLEcom shareware package allows you the opportunity to determine if the software will meet your needs.
